THE REVIEW

It's been a while since this album was released; I picked it up again just to write this review.

I must say that I really liked Load and Re-Load a lot. Despite their numerous ups and downs, I enjoyed them a lot, not at the legendary level of the Black Album, but they were good nonetheless. I couldn't stand when people criticized Metallica for "selling out": in my opinion, they simply transitioned from metal to rock, that's all. Now the problem is different: this album is really bad! I wouldn't dare call it commercial: there are no silly choruses, it lacks rhythm!

Did you know that Lars opened a hardware store? I can't stand the drumming on this CD. The entire CD is accompanied by annoying noises akin to a hardware store that are simply irritating. Then Kirk stopped playing the guitar: all the songs are characterized by his guitar, practically always the same, "low" and without peaks.

The CD even starts well with "Frantic," which I don't mind, and "St. Anger," which in my opinion is very beautiful. But then it gets lost in songs that are all the same, including even a sort of rap!

I just don't understand this album. I don't understand what's odd about it. There's something common in all the songs. I don't recommend it to anyone, hoping for the next album that should be released in summer 2007. Fingers crossed.

Summary by Bot

The reviewer revisits Metallica's St. Anger album and expresses strong disappointment. While earlier albums like Load and ReLoad were enjoyable, St. Anger fails due to poor drumming, repetitive guitar riffs, and an irritating sound palette. Despite a few good tracks, the album overall is not recommended.

Metallica

Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. They rose from the Bay Area thrash scene with early albums like Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning, achieved mainstream success with 1991's Metallica (The Black Album), and have released a long-running and often debated catalog since.

St. Anger comes across as a sterile album, lacking any creative flair, flat, with only the desire to be heavy.

An album, in my opinion, released only to tell the world, 'we are Metallica and we still know how to make hard music', but this album certainly lacks mastery.

"St. Anger is not only an abomination of the post 'Hetfield Amish Style' era but is also a hodgepodge of sounds with a setting that is too Nu for a RealMetallicaLover."

"We find choruses absolutely devoid of meaning, almost as if trying to mimic a style that has never belonged to them."
