Since I've been on Debaser, I've reviewed great artists like Ozzy Osbourne, Pino Scotto, and Povia, but also bland singers like Oasis and Zucchero. However, tonight I wanted to review one of my all-time favorite albums, which goes by the name of ''Master Of Puppets'', and I believe that on this site (almost) everyone knows it.
The Metallica are, in my opinion, the greatest band ever alongside Korn and Guns N' Roses. The first three albums by the band led by James Hetfield were certainly the best, and to me, this was the most beautiful of all.
But let's get to work... the album opens with the frantic ''Battery'', a complex piece talking about tobacco and drugs with very powerful sounds typical of Metallica.
The album continues with what I consider a masterpiece, indeed, the title-track ''Master Of Puppets'', which, while the lyrics can have different interpretations, in terms of sound, it's just powerful heavy metal that everyone can appreciate.
''The Thing That Should Not Be'' is another great piece of the group that deals with important themes and has a rather nice and entertaining rhythm.
Quite another thing is ''Welcome Home (Sanitarium)'', which in my opinion can only be placed beneath the title track. The theme of the song is, as usual, serious and important... the madness of a man locked up in an asylum.
''Disposable Heroes'' instead is a proper metal song (not that the previous ones weren't) where you can feel the touch of the late Cliff Burton (probably the true soul of the band).
''Leper Messiah'' is another great song full of musical inventiveness and great poetic license... combine these two factors and you get another great piece.
After 6 great tracks, you expect something equally great and you're given ''Orion'' which may seem like a useless piece but is instead a continuous shift of rhythm gifted to us by the great Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton's soul.
The album closes with ''Damage Inc'', a nice catchy track but perhaps the weakest of them all, which doesn't allow it to become a perfect album but just (so to speak) a classic of heavy-metal and thrash metal music.
In conclusion, this album is recommended for anyone who likes good music because I can affirm that this is a ''Classic'' of music.
Rating (out of ten): 4.9.
Eight unforgettable minutes, which have made metal history, are making it and will continue to do so.
Simply the greatest masterpiece of Metallica...
Master Of Puppets gives us MetallicA in great, tremendous form, still at the pinnacle of their dawn.
This album is a gem in the musical landscape of recent years, a collector’s item.
Despite not being technically excellent musicians, the four manage to write captivating songs, superior to other thrash groups.
Master Of Puppets is a masterpiece, though being of a genre not enjoyed by all, the allure of these songs is undeniable.
You’ll be left speechless right from the first track 'Battery,' which starts off pounding and determined at a crazy speed.
It’s impossible to find terms that could simplify in words the magic of their music, which made history and will continue to do so.
Listening to just a few seconds of the first track is enough to realize you are dealing with something very different from a simple good thrash metal album.
Master of Puppets is a must-listen for every genre lover and is also an excellent antidote for eardrums now stressed by what is sold today as metal.
