I am about to review what has been my favorite live CD since time immemorial... Yes, I'm talking about the fabulous "Live Shit: Binge & Purge" by a little band called MetallicA, which at the time, was at the peak of its career!
The setlist is perfect: opened by the beautiful piece by Ennio Morricone (the great!...) The Ecstasy of Gold (from the film "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", ed.) serves as an intro to the wonderful Enter Sandman! And then a whole string of great classics! Just to name a few: Master, Sanitarium, One, Harvester, The Unforgiven, Fade to Black, Nothing Else, and even the legendary Four Horsemen, the song par excellence of the quartet.
These are three fiery discs where we find a brilliant Kirk, a highly technical Lars, and an engaging Jason Newsted, underrated in my opinion, only because he followed that musician (and what a bassist...!) named Clifford Lee Burton.
But above all, in three hours of concert, it's the frontman who makes the difference: that bearded, scruffy, and smelly man, with a voice that shifts from the most violent thrash to the most streetwise rock.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, in three hours of concert, we have that great drunken rascal called James Hetfield who screams, spits, and belches! What more could we want?
METAL UP OUR ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Three hours that alternate between James’s screams, Hammet’s splendid guitar riffs, Newstead’s four-string roar, and Ulrich’s unmistakable drum grooves."
"For all those who still speak ill of Jason today, I highly recommend 'watching' this Live Shit... you will discover the greatness of the former bassist of the quintessential metal band."
