Eh yes!! Finally, I found something about Metallica that hasn't been reviewed yet! This "something" is the concert that the famous knights performed in Padua on June 29, 2004. In my opinion, a great live show where the four gave their best.
After the opening live performance by Slipknot, here's the usual Morricone's Ectasy of Gold, and when it ends, you first see Lars taking his place at the drums, and then you see the others coming out... and it kicks off with a blistering Blackened, followed by Hetfield shouting: GIMME AN F GIMME AN U GIMME AN E GIMME A L!! A Fuel played at triple speed kicks in!! Followed by the excellent Sad But True and Sanitarium, much acclaimed by the public. As Hetfield and the others change instruments, the chants start: OLE!OLEOLEOLE! METALLICA! And then starts a very furious Frantic, which shows that despite the rubbish of the last album, it's always appreciated live. After the usual speech by James, we have Holier than thou, The memory remains, and No leaf clover, interspersed with a good slap solo by Trujillo on the bass. And here comes the much-criticized St. Anger, which leaves the fans slightly indifferent, used to much more. Quite the opposite happens with the next song, in my opinion, one of the most appreciated: Creeping Death starts with an incredible fury keeping it throughout its duration, with fans continuing to shout DIE!!!DIE!!!
Then comes Battery, (note Lars Ulrich finally seeming in shape), and Nothing else matters, where you even see a few tears falling. But all this is to anticipate the Grand Master of Puppets, finally played in full, where it's beautiful to see the entire solo by Kirk Hammett on the big screens!! And after a great song, there can be only another great song, and indeed One begins, destructive in the second part, where Hammett unveils one of his most difficult tapping solos. Then, Enter Sandman kicks in, welcomed with cheers from the multitude of fans present at the Euganeo Stadium. But it couldn't end like this, without something from Kill'em All. And indeed, the violent Metal Militia begins, quickly followed by Seek and Destroy, by now the band's anthem.
And so this live ends, lasting a full 2 hours and 10 minutes, but it could have lasted longer, considering the four horsemen doubled the speed of the songs. A great setlist, although in my opinion, a Damage Inc could have been included... Oh well, maybe next time!
Long live Metallica!!
