All the premises were there for a powerful live show, and it was seen and experienced even by those, like me, in an uncomfortable position and without a ticket (at the entrance, a sign reading "Melvins concert sold-out" was a portent of that!) who could still enjoy King Buzzo and company.
The legendary figure, in great shape with a big black cloak and the vibrant "Sideshow Bob" hair, put on a concert in grand style, making hordes of beardless kids in the front rows mosh to the surprise of yours truly... a demonstration that grunge, heavy, doom, or whatever that jumble of distorted, dissonant, and slow sounds is still very relevant despite the thirty years and countless records released by the Seattle band... almost as if to say that the city of rain has the power not only to produce blonde virgins (and any reference to current events is purely coincidental) but above all musicians who continue to give meaning to a story.
The Roman venue, packed to the brim, still withstood the impact of the crowd, sweaty from the first moments of the concert (the subsequent rush to buy slightly overpriced t-shirts was proof of that!!). One after the other, the Melvins played and rocked with their hits (a very, very inappropriate term!!!), including the latest album which is not exactly thrilling, and lived up to the expectations not only of the audience in the venue but also of those outside... it was impossible not to move the body without being stickily pressed and smelly together with others... and the desire was notably present as ever!
The lingering sensation is one of badass satisfaction, as is the evidence in the eyes and stomach of a band that truly knows how to excite an audience of all ages, indistinct just like their genre, free of labels and unnecessary classifications: the Seattle sound doesn't die at Green River...
