He was kicked out for his alcohol and drug abuse from the early Metallica and Hetfield and co. were certainly no saints!
He forms a band to show 'tallica what they lost, but kicks out anyone who annoys him even for five minutes, he's full of anger, knows how to play, knows how to sing, knows how to compose songs in a more than dignified way, he possesses enviable charisma...
It's him: Dave Mustaine, you either love him or hate him!
After the somewhat quiet debut with "Killing is my business...and my business is good", the excellent "Peace sells...but who's buying?" comes out.
So, expectations were high, plus their alter ego Metallica were about to release "...and justice for all", so the 'deth had to release a great album.
And so it was (or perhaps only partially), "So far, so good...so what!", in Italian "fin qui tutto bene!", is an album less raw than the previous one but at the same time full of anger and ideas.
From the instrumental intro (am I wrong or do I hear a trumpet, but in a thrash album?! WOW), to the last "Hook in mouth", a song condemning censorship on songs, Megadeth don't relent and never take their foot off the gas, an album that you listen to all in one go.
Sure, there are some weak points such as the Sex Pistols cover "Anarchy in the U.K.", whose usefulness is questionable since Megadave and company were certainly not short of ideas at that time.
Mention must be made of the monumental "In my darkest hour", one of the best songs in all of Megadeth's discography, a song written by Mustaine for the late Cliff Burton, based on powerful riffs and a refrain that sticks in your head "did you ever think i get lonely... did you ever think that i needed love... did you ever think to stop thinking... you are the only one that i'm thinking of".
The highlight of the album is "Liar" where in just over three minutes of song Dave spews insults as much as he can towards the listeners or towards some targeted target?
It's not the band's masterpiece which will come two years later, but the time is ripe and the inevitable comparison with Metallica these Megadeth are holding it well, to be honest seeing the latest efforts of both groups it can be said that Megadave despite the decline has taken a good lead over his former companions!
I love Mr. Mustaine!
