THE REVIEW

I want to introduce you to the first work of Medusa's Spite, a band that has won me over and I hope will win over many in the DeBaser community. The band was formed in 1996 from the meeting between brothers Daniele (I don't think they are related to Pino, but evidently if they also make very good music, maybe they are relatives and they don't know it) and Antonello Aprea, and they give life to a musical project aimed specifically at electronic music.

The group is called "Medusa's Spite" and the name clearly refers to the myth of Medusa, the gorgon who turned anyone who looked at her into stone, while spite stands for displeasure, anger.

After about a year, they release their first work titled "Floating Around" which receives excellent feedback from both critics and the public, selling 36,000 copies in Europe, especially in foreign markets, and is a great debut effort, an electronic rock where beautiful melodies often blend with impetuous electronic riffs, each song contains a myriad of "special" effects clearly inspired by Pink Floyd in a wonderful musical kaleidoscope.

The Medusa's blend various styles (Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, and even Cure), drawing in full to create a very personal and, I believe, unique style in Italy, without it sounding like something already heard or, worse yet, copied.

"Floating Around" is an album that lets you listen to it all in one breath from start to finish, with one great track after another, a kind of concept album, although in reality, it isn't. It starts with the acoustic guitar of "Someone by my Side" onto which an electronic riff is superimposed that gets into your head, transitioning to the beautiful ballad "Everlasting love" in many songs, the wonderful voice of the vocalist stands out. Their most famous song is "Will Hunting" from their second album "Morning Doors," included in the TV series R.I.S., and they themselves participated in new episodes of the series playing themselves.

Their latest work is being released (available for pre-order on their website www.medusasspite.com); meanwhile, they have released a new single and video "Soon" (in my opinion, both are very beautiful). You can also listen to them on last.fm.

In the meantime, Antonello Aprea and Alessandro Nardis (drummer) have left the band to pursue their solo careers, Nardis' place has been taken by Fabio De Angelis. So currently, Medusa's consist of Paolo and Stefano Daniele on guitars, Axel Donnini on bass, and Fabio De Angelis on drums.

A piece of advice: listen to them with headphones, and you will enter the wonderful musical world of these very talented guys, who I think deserve to be discovered by a broader audience than that which already adores them.

Until next time.
