Alfred McCoy Tyner (1938–2020) was an American jazz pianist, noted for his work with the John Coltrane Quartet and for his powerful, percussive left-hand and modal approach.

Born October 11, 1938; died March 6, 2020. Prominent member of the John Coltrane Quartet in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Leader of many albums including The Real McCoy (1967) and Sahara (1972). Widely regarded as an influential innovator of jazz piano.
