What is darkness, among all things, that frightens us the most? That which we do not know is automatically feared, isn't it? And by embodying this sentiment in music, a monster is brought to life, which, fueled by time, its controversial history, by the legend of the humans (so to speak) who conceived it, immediately becomes legend. And this is the beginning.
"De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" fully represents black metal, from the first diabolical note to the last, forty-six minutes of wandering through the desolate lands of a dark and simply evil world with the devil. There is no need to analyze the songs one by one. It is not an album that can be reviewed in this way, and to understand it, you have to listen from start to finish. The attack of "Funeral Fog" is enough to understand my words, or the riff of "Freezing Moon", where the best part of Euronymous is expressed, especially in the grimy solo. The album has only one flaw, which is the fact that it was not recorded with Dead on vocals. But he considered himself not human, so he had to return to that (unknown to us) homeland he believed to be his land of origin. Patience, legends always die. Replaced by Attila, who does an excellent job, even if inferior to Dead's style. And that's enough, other words would be superfluous. It all begins with the Funeral Fog. Abandon all hope, you who enter.
Uh-oh! We have been informed that this review also appears (in whole or in part) on truemetal.it and we have been asked to remove it.
The only true satanic music is not even the Blues, nor the music of the fearsome Slayer, but BLACK METAL.
