I had already had the opportunity to talk about the musician from Campania Max Fuschetto here on DeBaser with regard to his successful album "Sùn Nà." We are dealing with a highly skilled musician with a career marked by the fusion of cultured and popular music. In his previous works, he focused on blending languages such as electronic, ethnic music, and singer-songwriter music. In reality, this type of “approach” to musical material is not entirely new. It reminds me, by the way, of an experience such as that of Opus Avantra by Alfredo Tisocco in the '70s, a group in its own unique way in the Italian progressive scene. They had ambitious ideas aimed at breaking down musical divisions between genres, between high and low, and I must say that they fully succeeded. While following a different path in terms of sensitivity and style, even Max Fuschetto, on a conceptual level, follows the same path. His new album titled “Mother Moonlight” is now released, which, this time, favors the use of the piano played, on this occasion, by the talented Enzo Oliva while Fuschetto, the composer, dedicates himself to the oboe and electronics. The other musicians involved are Pasaquale Capobianco on electric guitar, Eleonora Amato on violin, Silvano Fusco on cello, Enrico Falbo on the Dilruba – a string instrument from the Indian tradition – and Franco Mauriello on clarinet. The atmospheres are extremely calm and gentle: one can feel the influence of musicians like Debussy, Bartok, and Arvo Pärt, but do not think you’ll encounter a boring and staid album. On the contrary, the listening experience is pleasant and relaxing, ideal for afternoons spent at home while it’s raining outside. Fuschetto has class and talent, and he confirms it with this “Mother Moonlight,” a delicate and moving narrative that speaks to us of the world of childhood, making us relive moments of our lives forgotten in our subconscious that manage, as if by magic, to live again in a new light. Recommended for those who love listening to ambient, new age, and world music, but also for those who simply have no preconceptions and want to engage with new listening experiences.
