Whitney Johnson aka Matchess returns on Trouble In Mind with a new album titled "Sacracorpa," the final chapter of an ideal trilogy that began in 2013 with "Seraphastra" and continued with "Somnaphoria" (2015). Previously part of the psychedelic rock group Verma and with experiences with Circuit des Yeux and Riley Walker, Whitney may be a name not widely known to the general public, especially in the old continent, but she is an experimental musician as skilled and discerning as few others in the contemporary scene, while simultaneously excelling in balancing her skills and technical knowledge with a certain pop taste.

The album was recorded across the country, in locations such as Chicago and New York (where she curated an installation of the "Dream House" by La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, essentially a thoroughly radicalized space by the projection of composite sound waves and sine waves generated by synthesizer sound designed to make the space specifically performative for listening), as well as Abiquiu and Curwensville, in a journey that was a true spiritual quest following a period of deep personal inner crisis. For this reason as well, "Sacracorpa" completes this ideal trilogy dedicated to the combination of sound and vision ("Seraphastra" explored the other side of visibility, "Somnaphoria" was dedicated to visions in dreams and their interpretation) by developing the theme of internal struggle, concluding with the discovery of new realities made manifest only at the end of a crisis.

Entirely recorded and performed by Whitney, who then collaborated with Cooper Crain for mixing and Mikey Young for mastering, the album clearly builds upon the same philosophy already sublimating in the aforementioned "Dream House" experience, developing alien sound waves and forms of peyote-induced shamanism using analog equipment, including magnetic tapes capturing live sounds such as those of the Susquehanna River, radio broadcasts from New Mexico, and loops and sequences of her own voice reproduced to achieve that typical subliminal mantra effect, accentuated by the sound of the viola and drum machine beats. Certainly appreciable by those who love ambient music, new wave suggestions, and evocative, somewhat "crystalline" synth sounds, the album opens up to more "simple" listeners with universal emotional content and light, almost ghostly cinematic visions.
