"Il vile", like "Catartica" and "Ho Ucciso Paranoia", I believe is in some respects an inimitable album. Inimitable in terms of conveying emotions; an album of pulsating displays of love and hatred, a condensation of contrasting feelings as only Marlene Kuntz can create. Reproducing themselves after "Catartica" was a nearly impossible bet to win, unless done by true artists in every sense of the word.

Exceptional compositional talent, Cristiano Godano has known how to assemble with his Marlene since their debut in 1994 to this day works full of pathos; "Il vile" is an album electric, noise at extreme levels, sweet and bitter, relentless to the extreme.

The opening is entrusted to "3 di 3" and "Retrattile" which have marked the live history of the group. From a screamed and desperate rock, as in "L'Agguato", a tale of a tragic car accident where the guitar and bass follow the voice obsessively until bursting into an inhuman "scream," to sweet music in "L'Esangue Deborah", a ballad with almost subdued but extremely decisive tones.
The musical climax is reached with "Ape Regina"; I believe few songs manage to convey such strong emotions, an interweaving of high and low tones; it starts very softly then reaches obsessive rhythms, a calm and gentle voice makes way for the queen bee buzzing over our heads ready to sting; all this is surrounded by a steady and pulsating bass and a drum being the heartbeat of the piece. Cristiano's voice is wonderful, it seems the singer is in a trance state in some parts. A total personification. The queen bee that gets inside you to the marrow.
This track alone would suffice to sell an album, but the composition of Marlene is embellished with other significant tracks like the heartbreaking "Cenere", "Ti Giro Intorno", and the title track "Il Vile".

I believe this album is worth listening to, and if you're not a fan of sometimes difficult and harsh music, at least read the lyrics: pure poetry.

Honor the vile....

Quanto fa male lavorare
al male che compare a causa dei
miei vuoti d'anima
Sento l'inutilita' obbligata
delle scuse solite:
il mio costume, la tua rabbia su di me

Come stavamo ieri...
sara' cosi' domani?
Dimmi di si

Quanto fa male ritornare
al gelo dei sorrisi uccisi
dalle nostre lacrime
Quanto fa male devastare
gli argini del nostro scorrere:
la terra e' fradicia anche al sole oramai

Come stavamo ieri...
sara' cosi' domani?
Dimmi di si

The absolute masterpiece of Marlene Kuntz.

An album without flaws, solid, in one word: indispensable.

By loureedo

"Il Vile is so perfect that I believe it created problems for Marlene Kuntz themselves, unjustly obliged to repeat the unrepeatable."

"A record narrated and explained in the very lyrics of the songs composing it, within which we find pieces explaining the raw why of this work."

By dellas

"Il Vile is an album tough, hard to penetrate and understand, steeped in physical pain and an apparently incurable existential unease."

"'Ape regina' is undoubtedly the apex of the parable and the masterpiece of the album, an intensely deep song difficult to interpret."

Marlene Kuntz recorded "Il Vile" in 1996... consolidating a completely personal and unmistakable style.

"Il Vile" is a cultured album, a true masterpiece of refined poetry, yet it remains a rock album, imbued with anger, aggressiveness, pride, and expressive urgency.

At my first listen, I was unprepared and taken aback as if I were being unexpectedly questioned about literature and had never opened a book.

I advise you not to give up after the first few listens.
