I was undecided about whether to review this wonderful album by Mark Knopfler, released a couple of days ago, because like all great albums, it gets under your skin listen after listen.

"Get Lucky" is an album that comes almost five years after the beautiful "Shangri-La", and it's interesting to note that while with the "Dire Straits" he had inexorably headed down the decline, albeit gifting us with genuine gems, in almost twenty years of activity, and memorable and unforgettable songs, his solo career has always followed standards of absolute exceptionality as often happens when a band is identified, in the end, predominantly with only one of its members (it's the case of Dire Straits, but also of The Doors, The Police, The Verve, or other bands literally vanished after their leaders left the bands).

Mark on his own has always made beautiful albums, starting with “Golden Heart” made while he was still with Dire Straits, moving on to “Sailing To Philadelphia” and the already mentioned “Shangri-La”, and this one does not disappoint expectations, like all great albums it doesn't grab you immediately, and it took me three listens to start digesting it. It's an album where Folk merges with Blues, with rarefied Dire Straits reminiscences present only in some songs, an album where acoustic guitars are often at the forefront, played by Mark with his usual mastery and his distinctive touch. The tracks that seem to stand out to me are "Border River", "Get Lucky" a true jewel of acoustic guitar and voice (splendid), "Monteleone" one of the album's pearls, and "Cleaning My Gun".

To conclude, a more than excellent performance by Mark, an authentic album, not ingratiating, delivering by playing what he loves most: the guitar, and merging genres like Folk and Blues, "which is what one expects to find when going to heaven" (Wikipedia). The album ends with "Piper To The End" with the same sound as the opening track.

Listen to it, and maybe buy it as I will because it deserves it... Truly...

P.S.: To me, it's a 4!

Here we have an Artist who for years has managed to sublimely blend Celtic melodies and the folk traditions of his native Scotland ... the blues and sometimes country rhythms of his always beloved America.

For this writer, it seemed like an autumnal album, with warm pastel hues ... very suitable for the imminent arrival of autumn in a city unfortunately not very healthy.

With Get Lucky comes an album with just eleven songs where our artist moves between musical coordinates ranging from indestructible blues roots to typically country sounds.

It’s evident, but we must recognize in Knopfler the one who over the years has made even his own music enamored with the ability to convey those emotions transformed into notes.
