It was 1976 when guitarist and singer Mark Shelton laid the foundations of his musical project, Manilla Road. The 70s Hard Rock laid the groundwork for what would become the classic Heavy Metal of the following decade, through various lines. Children of Uriah Heep's David Byron and Box, the line in question can be traced back to the most primordial of the Epic. Manilla Road is now known as the forerunners of a genre that later saw Virgin Steele and Manowar as its greatest exponents. But few remember bands like Cirith Ungol, for example. The fact remains that there is little Epic in the debut of the Kansas group, as it is an album that finds its strength in the roughness and rawness of its three members.
It owes much to Hard Rock, that's for sure, starting with the first track 'The Dream Goes On', which almost seems to have been written by the Grand Funk Railroad. The album proceeds with interesting tracks such as 'Cat and Mouse' and 'Far Side Of The Sun', but finds its peculiarity in the last two songs. It is indeed the ballad 'Centurian War Games', supported by acoustic guitar, in which the band's first Epic embryo is evident. And finally, the endless 'The Empire', of exasperating length, which however clearly showcases the capabilities of a group that would give so much to metal in the years to come. Certainly the most elaborate and studied track. For the pleasure of Dragonstar.

03 Far Side of the Sun (08:38)
The day is coming That soon in future's time Every single one of us Will soon learn how to die And if I do escape Before that time has come I will meet you On the far side of the sun Everybody is free on the far side of the sun Oh won't you listen to me I'm on the other side I've got to get back home Before I go out of my mind It's like I'm a mirror A mystery I can't face It's like a dream I'm living I've got to get back into space Everybody is free on the far side of the sun I'm going to journey homeward That time has finally come I'm going to fly back through the stars To the far side of the sun And now a ship approachin' Heading straight for me Ah Lord it's a ship like mine Is this my destiny Everybody is free on the far side of the sun
