Honest and “silly” craftsmen of the English hard-boogie scene. The very first period features a remarkable psychedelic sound (but boring to my ears…). Then comes the Hard-blues shift and the beginning of the true golden age, which I believe spans from “Dog of Two Head” to “Quo” in 1974. From “On the Level” onwards, a sort of “minor golden age” begins, and they churn out a long sequence of “automatic” albums, almost all similar to one another (but fun) until at least “Just Supposin’” in 1980. Out of this period, “Blu For You” is definitely worth mentioning. From 1980-81 onwards, the decline begins and lasts until the mid-eighties, followed by a post-Live Aid revival in 1985. The rest is pretty much history. My rating aims to reward little power-pop gems like “Quo” and “Piledriver.”

Status Quo

Status Quo are a British rock band formed in 1962, evolving from 60s psychedelic pop into a defining boogie-rock force in the 70s. Anchored by Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt, they became UK chart mainstays and famously opened Live Aid in 1985. Their legacy rests on relentless riffing and road-tested anthems.
