A character on the brink of the absurd, he seems to understand little or nothing about music (more nothing than little); when he addresses political or social themes in his barroom populism, 99 times out of 100 he says things that are agreeable... as an artist, I know very little about him, and from what little I’ve heard, it seemed to me that more than singing, he was gasping.
