My… um, Heroine. It was love at first listen. An absolute anomaly for its time that inspired the devoted legions of its post-punk and darkwave acolytes in the decades that followed, both depressed and not. Its echoes can still be heard in many works by contemporary indie female singer-songwriters (not Italian, unfortunately). It will forever remain in my heart (of darkness) and in my black earbuds.
