Rhetorical, heavy-handed, often pathetically misplaced. You watch his films and see a grand exterior, more than anything else, with little substance - apart from rare exceptions, like "Lanterne", in which genre much better has been done, abundantly. But he's terrible especially when handling the 70s Hong Kong wu xia with a sound of plagiarism and quotations, stuff that even the worst Tarantino wouldn’t pull off. Disgust.
