My first gateway to jazz was Petrucciani: gentle, delicate, and powerful music, humble and immediately understandable yet uncompromising. And above all played by one of the rare individuals whose silent, modest, and magnetic presence and the extreme sincerity and spontaneity of their example compel one to strive for personal improvement.

Michel Petrucciani

Michel Petrucciani (1962–1999) was a French jazz pianist and composer known for a lyrical, high-velocity touch and communicative spirit. Despite osteogenesis imperfecta, he forged a celebrated career in solo and trio settings, recorded extensively for Blue Note, and collaborated with figures like Wayne Shorter and Jim Hall.
