I wonder if Santa Claus's reindeer, after having visited the icy lands of Iceland and passed through Reading, know the way to reach Melbourne, the native land of Lunaire, to deliver their gifts to them.

Not much news is actually available, but in their musical curriculum, we find a brief four-handed collaboration with the shoegazers Airs from San Francisco and an EP.

At first glance, “Dreams and Inbetweens” definitely stands out for its splendid and evocative cover, which makes us all return a bit to our youthful dreams. If there were a best artwork 2014, Lunaire would easily climb the rankings.

As for the album, I remember the initial enthusiasm about a year ago when I heard it for the first time and placed it high in my personal 2014 ranking, only for that feeling to gradually fade away, until I forgot about it and crossed off their gentle and romantic dream-pop/shoegaze from my shopping list.

After all, who doesn't enjoy playing this sport: like every year-end, punctually alongside raisins and pandoros, lentils and cotechino, breaded and focaccia, the classic year-end music charts arrive in which each of us can play at being God. Professional or individual charts, often stereotyped by a certain "trend," are certainly difficult to decipher and truly analyze.
On what parameters does the tenant from the 4th floor deserve more than the friend from the 6th? Total number of listens? Time spent on the iPod? Strength of individual episodes? Is there any objectivity? I would say not.

And so here come Lunaire visiting me again after some time, making me realize that while it may not be the dream-pop/gaze album of the year, this starry sky shows promise both in the dreamier moments (“Stars”), the more ambient-instrumental moments (“The Distance Between Us”), or in the more electric moment (“Goodbye”), prompting me to reflect on my future by first looking at the cover and then stepping onto the balcony with a determined gaze upwards, hoping that a bit of luck might rain down from that magnificent and illuminated sky, leading straight to a new and wonderful real dawn.

In the meantime, while the bearded man gears up for this long journey, they are the ones giving us a gift by placing their tender creation freely in our hands.

Let yourself be carried away by a blue ocean of fantasies and sweet dreams to all.
