The Profile

Loggins & Messina are an American country/soft rock duo formed by Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina. Emerging in the early 1970s, they released a string of successful albums and hits before parting in 1976, later reuniting for tours and a live release in the mid-2000s.

Members: Kenny Loggins (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Jim Messina (guitars, vocals, production). Label: Columbia Records. Known songs include Your Mama Don't Dance, Danny's Song, and House at Pooh Corner. Original run 1971–1976; reunited for the 2005 “Sittin’ In Again” tour and live album.

Two reviews chart Loggins & Messina’s 1970s arc: a rave for the expansive 1974 live set On Stage, and a mixed take on their final studio LP Native Sons (1976). The duo’s chemistry, roles (Loggins as frontman; Messina as guitarist/producer), and country-rock roots are emphasized. Native Sons is seen as polished and orchestrated; On Stage as virtuosic and crowd-lifting.
