Good morning mr. Barrett

Lodovico Ellena is a great artist, there is no doubt about it. In the early '80s, the saga of the Effervescent Elephants was something legendary: the group traveled across the peninsula with a sacred mission: to spread the religion and cult of Syd Barrett. Not everyone understood them, but those who did, loved them. Barrett was a genius, the psycho-pop soul of the Pink Floyd and his two solo albums are timeless gems. Ellena is not the only Barrett enthusiast in Italy: I would definitely mention the legendary guitarist Maurizio Curadi, a member of the fabulous Birdmen Of Alkatraz and then founder of the psychedelic Steeplejack. Curadi often performs Barrett covers live, as I have had the chance to see. The Elephants released an LP that today, in its own way, is a small classic of the genre, namely "Something To Say." Their entire production on CD was initially released by Mellow Records in the CD "The Complete Works." Mellow also made available other productions by Ellena, including the album of the acoustic Folli di Dio, the bizarre and brilliant "Musica per topi" credited to Lodovico Ellena e gli assurdi" and a deserved tribute to the art of Syd Barrett titled "Good Morning Mr. Barrett." It thus pays homage to timeless pieces like "Golden Hair," "Terrapin" from "The Madcap Laughs" rendered with a cosmic and timeless "feeling." The musician from Alice Castello then delves into the repertoire of the early Pink Floyd: hence classics like "See Emily Play," "Lucifer Sam," "Arnold Layne," and "Julia Dream" rendered acoustically in the style of Barrett's early records. "The Gnome," another "Barrettian" gem from "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn," could not be missing. There is nothing missing for those who love this sound: there are also renditions of "Matilda Mother" and "Astronomy Dominé." It closes with a derailing version of "Interstellar Overdrive." Lodovico Ellena presents the Cosmos with a tribute to the cult of the immortal Syd Barrett. A must-see for lovers of Barrett and early Pink Floyd.
