THE REVIEW

The year 2000 was a good year for music (at least for the kind I like), but despite everything, even in 2000 there was an episode not unpleasant but VERY UNPLEASANT: Hybrid Theory.

I start with the assumption (or perhaps with the hope) that after 20 years, people have finally understood that the term “Metal” has nothing to do with this dreadful “little band.” If not, I suggest you abandon music in its entirety; it’s not for you!

Going back to that awful album, the main problem is that besides Bennington’s voice (may he rest in peace wherever he is, despite the crappy band he put together) gifted with a UNIQUE unmistakable timbre (with this, I’m not stating he’s a good singer) of the band, there’s nothing else. There is a complete lack of any instrumental evolution; there is neither flair nor enthusiasm, except for those annoying “chours” in Coldplay style. Every track (from how it's conceived) seems like a photocopy of the previous one, making listening decidedly irritating. It’s an album where everything is missing! An embarrassing flatness! How they managed to sell millions of copies remains a mystery to me, and I hope that after 20 years, everyone has finally realized that it is an insult to music! According to many, this album is the only decent one they have produced (only to sink into total nothingness afterward), and this is why I decided to listen to it. An unforgivable mistake.

I don’t recommend it to anyone! Especially to those who think they can approach Metal through these atrocities... better the first album by Limp Bizkit at this point! At least they managed to create the only Rap-Metal record in history.

Linkin Park copied everything (and I mean everything) from Limp Bizkit and Korn.

They are the ones who made nu metal pop and mainstream, just as Nirvana did back in the day with Nevermind.

Hybrid Theory is a masterpiece of the nu-metal genre even though there are no swear words or insults.

Crawling starts right from the chorus, heart-wrenching and self-destructive that almost leads to suicide among depressed listeners.

Linkin Park only have the look and attitude of nu metal, but as far as their music is concerned, it’s pop/rock enriched with rap vocals, snippets of electronics, and DJing.

Nu metal isn’t Linkin Park, but much more skillful people like Korn and Deftones.

In this CD, there is nothing nu metal, except for the guitars playing a bit in the background.

It is certainly the best among the three they made... because it contains episodes that deserve some recognition.

"Hybrid Theory does not present any noteworthy artistic flair."

"The album is catchy but lacking in originality, anchored to a rocking Hip-Hop without any pretense except to sell music to those under 15 years old."
