“Oh, London” arrives like a sunset breeze. It starts off calm, grows slowly, and opens up into a choral finale with a beat and bells that evoke the British capital. The track is an intense reflection on the ambivalent relationship that Leon Seti maintains with the city that has welcomed him for years: a deep intertwining of love, frustration, growth, and achievement, bringing him, as he says in the song, always back to the same place. But this EP is not just about London, even if it’s undeniable that a certain modern soul that occasionally runs through the tracks, or the slow beats that many recall as London’s trip hop (perhaps more Howie B than the raw, old skool sound of Portishead or Tricky), are surely the mark left by the multiethnic capital, suspended between the past and the most daring future (the synthesis of which can be admired from the Millennium Bridge, with St Paul’s Cathedral in front of us and London’s ultra-modern skyscrapers). Moreover, in the loop that Leon embarks upon in his relationship with the city, he knows how to capture that majesty, that tranquility of certain parks (Battersea above all) that even on a gloomy day always shine and make everything feel sunny, joyful, as in the final track “Universe”
