Strange album this Unleashed Memories for these six Milanese.
They play unnecessarily with electronics and often make quite a mess. Fortunately, the electronic parts (mainly talking about synthesized drums) are few, allowing one to fully enjoy the fruits of the achieved artistic maturity in songs like To Live Is To Hide or Senzafine, Cold Heritage, or 1:19.
Finally, even Andrea Ferro manages to be on par with the other band members, showcasing his immense vocal abilities (perhaps a bit overshadowed by his "colleague," who, being a woman, and moreover hot, dominates). On this note, I would like to make a small criticism: sure, Cristina has a wonderful voice, but sometimes I get a bit fed up with hearing only her, and indeed the best songs are those where the two voices intertwine, breaking the sometimes monotonous litanies of Scabbia (please refrain from possible jokes).
Stunning in this regard is Senza fine, sung entirely in Italian, where Ferro truly makes a difference.
The production is finally powerful, as well as the sound of the guitars, decidedly more metal. The style is always typical of Lacuna: a metal balancing between rock, gothic, and some classical influences.
The melodies are never sad or lamentingly melancholic as one might expect from a gothic group, but "cheerful," normal, and bearable, even for those brainless people who snub Lacuna just because they are labeled (incidentally mistakenly) as METAL, thus they burp, are dirty, rough, eat children (like the communists) and perform satanic rituals (like the communists).
Try to resell the Evanescence CD and buy this one instead, you'll have made a deal. I'm a loser…just an illusion (1:19).
