Tune the strings of your feelings with the musical notes of this album and let them resonate; let yourself be lulled by the beats of the heart and you'll find yourself in a whirlwind of feelings. Good feelings. Love is the recurring theme of this magnificent (their best in my opinion), second (third if you count the remix of their self-titled first album) work by the Milanese La Crus. A name that for those who don’t know means The Cross in Milanese dialect. An album damnably melancholic and introspective but deliciously sweet and full of hope.

Let us be carried and accompanied "Hand in hand" by the trumpet that opens the first song and we immediately find ourselves in an enchanted limbo… the voice of Mauro Ermanno Giovanardi is anguished but the atmosphere is cushioned, expanded; perhaps we find ourselves in a Calexico album, with a background drum playing to the rhythm of Bossanova (!) and a lyric that perhaps the great singer-songwriter Luigi Tenco has left us as a legacy. Indeed, because the fundamental point is precisely this: the lyrics of the songs, even before the music, stand out for their intensity and kindness and you, "...you are the breath that guides my fingers on you, you are the breath within my whys... you are the calm voice that gives strength to my thoughts...", you who listen, are captivated and you stop to think about the profound meaning of the words, the simplest ones, and the meaning of feelings, the real ones, and your loves: those present ("when I look at you time stops”), those past ("...I had happiness on my side, tired caresses that cut me in half”) and those consumed ("...here close to you" where "your belly writhes and quakes trembles and can no longer resist”), emphasized in this track by the "dirty" distorted guitar of Manuel Agnelli. Some frescoes of everyday life such as "Inventario", "The neon light of the stalls", "The window of my house" and "34 years" (...the ones I will turn in a little more than twenty days...) bring us back to the earthly life of every day made of "three nails two keys a room and in the middle me thinking of you...". With the claustrophobic "Correre" we dive at a relentless pace into the chaotic city traffic of a Milan, where everyone - even those who have nothing to do – must "run run faster than the cars… always running running where was I yesterday?". With the relentless rhythm of "Dragondragon" La Crus flirt with the more rock side of Nick Cave with the help of Manuel Agnelli and Cristiano Godano on backing vocals... To conclude, "Ninna nanna", reminds me of a mountain choir, with its so slow and so melancholically cadenced pace… bringing back to my memory the starry nights spent in the mountains at the foot of a tent, gazing at the stars while waiting to close my eyes... hoping to continue seeing the stars… (no, no the military has nothing to do with it… I was a conscientious objector…)

The chirping of crickets in the background accompanies the song from the first to the last note and lets us rest without worries.

"In the silence passes a golden cart full of dreams and for you who await sleep still shakes its bells… let us hear the sweet song of the evening"

Dentro Me is intimacy made into an album, in a triple sense.

The result could be a desperate and despairing narcissistic soliloquy, and yet it isn’t, because the listener is led to fully identify with what is sung.
