Rating: What could be more outdated and anachronistic, in 2015, than a rock'n'roll album?
Certainly, this doesn't matter to two characters like King Khan and Mark Sultan who, with several albums and bands under their belts, have made rock'n'roll their mission. The two have reunited as The King Khan and BBQ Show to release another excellent album, again for In The Red.
If you've already listened to an album of the duo, you already know what to expect, which is excellent garage rock'n'roll with a dash of punk.
Two guitars that trace simple and irresistible melodies, a minimal drum beat, and splendid vocal harmonies with alternating voices that overlap, along with catchy choruses that are impossible not to sing along to, these are the ingredients to create, in 2015, an album of excellent rock'n'roll.
Right from the first track, "Alone Again," you understand what awaits you with this album: simple, immediate, ultra-catchy songs that make it impossible to stay still, and the rest of the album confirms it. Tracks that get stuck in your head and make you shake your hips like "Ocean Of Love," one of the best songs on the album. There are punkier pieces like "D.F.O.," but also ballads like "Buy Bye Bhai."
Then, if at the end of "Killing The Wolfman" (Killin The Wolfman, Killing The Wolfman, Killing The Wolfman, Wolfman, Wolfman) they cite "Chemical Warfare" by Dead Kennedys, well, how can you not love them?
In short, a good old rock'n'roll album, definitely nothing new or innovative and maybe even anachronistic, but what is less affected by the passage of time than a good rock'n'roll album?
