Canadian, thirty-four-year-old J.D. has reached her seventh official work excluding a long series of promotional EPs with Eric's Trip.
The experience with this band remains alive in the current collaboration with the founder Rick White, with whom she creates a good part of the songs both in composition and execution.
The work is well-crafted in the alternation between softly played tracks (You Look So Alive, Swan Pond) and those slightly upbeat yet still retaining a discreet character due to the whispered voice (Don't Wanna Be/Liked By You). The entire album has all it takes to move nostalgic lovers of classics by Joan Baez or Janis Joplin (especially in Dark Horse). The very sparse yet highly atmospheric arrangements are beautiful and often result in bursts of indie (The Wrong Guy).
Ultimately, an intimate and calm album where the notes flow light and natural like a stream running its course. Ten tracks as brief as they are intense, like small books, yet containing great stories.
