"Courage The Cowardly Dog" is a beautiful animated series created by the American John R. Dillworth, and one of the funniest of recent times. The series tells the (mis)adventures of the bizarre pink dog Courage, who constantly finds himself having to defend his owners from the most "disturbing" threats hidden in the town of "Nowhere".
Despite Courage being an insecure and fearful little dog, a victim of improbable misadventures, bordering on the absurd (which is actually an understatement in this case), he always proves to be the strongest when it is time to face danger. Clumsy and awkward, he always emerges unscathed from the most paradoxical situations, even when dealing with crazy or cruel creatures. He fights against adversity with lightheartedness and comedy, yet he offers us hilarious moments and episodes that are as ridiculous as they are entertaining.
The characters that follow one another are among the most disparate and improbable, and they often appear in multiple episodes: there's the sadistic red cat, first an arachnophile manager of a motel where guests are fed to his giant spiders, or a fake resort manager who transforms tourists into appliances to make them fight each other like gladiators; there are the living eggplants, who declare war on Muriel (Courage's owner) because she cooked one of them; there's Fred the Freak, the psychopathic barber, nephew of Muriel and her husband Eustace, who occasionally gets out "for good behavior" from the asylum for crazy barbers, just to shave Courage's fur to zero (and then gets re-arrested). The list of characters is virtually endless, so many are the characters/enemies who appear from time to time before Courage, who, whenever he senses danger, screams and flails giving us incredible grimaces that can't help but make us laugh: epic is the episode, just to name one, where his teeth fly out from screaming so much :-D although there are plenty of memorable faces.
In short, an animated show rich in gags and hilarious characters, well animated and perfect for spending ten minutes of pure joy. Highly recommended to everyone. Trust me, if you like "straightforward" humor, give it a chance and catch up with it, you'll love it.
