Joe Bataan

Joe Bataan (born Bataan Nitollano, 1942) is an American singer, songwriter and bandleader from Spanish Harlem. Of Filipino and African American heritage, he pioneered Latin soul and helped define the salsa–soul blend known as “salsoul.” He recorded seminal sides for Fania and later Salsoul Records, with signature works like Gypsy Woman, Subway Joe, Salsoul, Afrofilipino and Rap-O Clap-O.
