The Profile

American glam-rock performer celebrated for his 1973 debut 'Jobriath' and a theatrical, Bowie-influenced style; later marginalized and died in 1983.

Born Bruce Campbell (stage name Jobriath). Released the debut album 'Jobriath' (1973) and 'Creatures of the Street' (1974) on Elektra. Widely cited as one of the first openly gay rock musicians to sign a major label deal. Fell into obscurity after commercial failure; died of AIDS in 1983. Morrissey later helped bring attention to his work via reissues.

Danny The Kid's review praises Jobriath's 1973 debut as a refined, theatrical glam-pop record with strong Bowie/T.Rex echoes. The review frames Jobriath as talented but disastrously marketed in the U.S. mainstream. It highlights standout tracks like "Take Me I'm Yours" and "Be Still" and notes the artist's later obscurity and 1983 death from AIDS.
