Listening to this Album for the first time, the first thing I thought was: I wonder if this Io, Carlo aka Carlo Fath is yet another flash in the pan in our national music scene, or the beginning of a new trend or compositional style, built with the formula of a classic catchy tune that pleases everyone at first listen, but with the addition of a certain commitment to writing lyrics. Well, I'd definitely say the latter. 11 beautiful songs that can be placed in the context of our local electro-pop but with plenty of guitars and piano, some in true 80's style, others in classic pop arrangements, almost all on par with the two singles released before the album, where we find arrangements and sounds that are not entirely original but enjoyable and very well-crafted, with clear references to the giants of our singer-songwriter field.

What surprises me the most are indeed the lyrics which luckily don't only deal with love, betrayals, etc., a very common theme in Italian products. Here we find more engaged topics like ecology, consumerism, the modern lifestyle suggested to us by the media, the necessity of always being at the center of consumer attention, trends, being what we are not, appearing better and more beautiful, the chaos around us, the frenzy of this early millennium life, the desire to escape from this planet, childhood nostalgia.

Phrases like:

We dance, we dance wearing dazzling smiles and rich and flamboyant clothes
We dance, we dance continuing to show ourselves for what we are not!

or in "Ennesima nota"

I, who am nothing but a poor man
write words adorned with sound
you who can and who are powerful
do something for time is tight
you could drop yet another bomb
or you could make an effort
the earth needs wiser minds
focused on the future and less wild

one could go on, but I think this is enough to convey the concept of the album.

What struck me are the two singles "L'Ego" and "Danziamo" of endless beauty, the first cheerful and fun in true 80's style, a  splendid dreamy waltz the second, two chart-topping singles in a single album for an emerging songwriter is no small feat. At this moment as I write "Danziamo" is at number one on iTunes singles, a great omen for the entire album. As mentioned before, the 9 unreleased tracks follow the compositional trend of the two singles, with beautiful arrangements and of excellent quality, but somewhat lacking in originality, a bit understandable since unfortunately the Italian commercial market is not designed for originality but for immediacy and standard compositional practices. The guy shows that he has listened to a lot of music and knows what he's doing anyway, the references to the legendary figures of Italian songwriting abound, Battiato for "L'uomo occidentale" and "Danziamo", De Andrè for "L'ennesima nota", which can also be considered the best tracks of the album along with the two singles, with "Extrasistole" and "Uomo dallo spazio" standing out among the others.

The remaining ones are good, very nice and sincere tracks, without coming across as the classic filler songs.

What can I say, an excellent product that is honest and sincere, cheerful and courageous, a great start that absolutely deserves to be rewarded with listening, nothing extraordinarily new but excellent tracks to hum and carefully listen to, reflecting seriously on the subjects addressed.

"Best Wishes Carlo"
