There is a precise moment when a person stops conforming and begins to truly exist. Ilenia Marzano has built an entire album around that instant: I Am Done Conforming, set to be released on June 22, 2026 on all major digital platforms, is her debut album in English, produced by Creativa Music under the artistic direction of Fabio Codega.
This is not an album born in haste. Years of notes, images, and insights jotted down in a notebook preceded the actual sessions, and you can feel that layering: every song carries with it the density of a long process, not the lightness of someone who filled twelve tracks in a few weeks in the studio.
The title is clear from the very start. "I Am Done Conforming" — ho finito di conformarmi — is a statement, not a question. But the album is not an aggressive manifesto: instead, it is an intimate and mature story, where vulnerability is neither flaunted nor resolved too quickly. In Take It, the protagonist sets a boundary after insults and belittlement, with that precise and sharp phrase: "I'm a woman, I am Roman, not an angel, not a demon". In Don't Fall in Love, farewell becomes almost a ceremony — both joyful and bittersweet at the same time — while in Separation, the breakup is shared between two points of view, with no heroes or guilty parties.
Musically, the project moves among influences of electronic, rock, and ambient, with a final track — Blue Drapes — that has its roots in progressive rock, creating an almost visionary scene: a desert, a seer wrapped in long blue veils, a wanderer asking for certainties and receiving wisdom. The album does not sell slogans. It explores the time of metamorphosis, and does so with rare precision.
