The Last Day Begins?

I honestly don't know if these revivals are crucial or not. I don't know, to be clear, if certain bands were stupidly ignored or if perhaps "it's better this way".

What I do know, on the other hand, is that in the '90s, a slew of rock bands emerged (from shoegaze to the most extreme metal) that raged for a few months only to then, but here it's up to you to tell me why, fall into oblivion in no time.

Let's take the English band Hybernoid: a band akin to the sounds of Paradise Lost and Celtic Frost, a band with a fair ability to navigate within a fierce metal yet full of spleen at the same time. "The Last Day Begin" was released in the distant 1994 for the indie label Displeased Records. It would be followed by a sort of compilation not very interesting and a third and final album. This last creation, if I'm not mistaken, would be characterized by electronic and industrial rock components.

"The Last Day Begin" is full of that melancholy that distinguished Northern European bands, and here I also include Albion, in the metallic but metamorphic '90s.

In short: it's clear that metal was alive and well in that decade... but something, surely, was changing compared to the monolithic '80s. That something we are still experiencing.

Returning to the album: good alternation between male "growl vocals" and female voice. A sound not strictly identifiable as Doom but rather in the early Gothic Metal. Not Lacuna Coil but, as already noted, Paradise Lost or Tiamat.

A good work, a bit raw and certainly to be refined. But there is nothing to object regarding the compositional abilities of our band. I carefully avoid pointing out the song titles as well as elevating one above the others. The tracks are rather homogeneous and should be listened to as a whole. Beware of their subsequent releases.

Here lies the beating heart of the late Hybernoid.
