The Profile

Hooverphonic is a Belgian music group formed in 1995, widely associated with trip hop and dream pop. Early singer Liesje Sadonius appeared on the debut, followed by long-time vocalist Geike Arnaert and later Noémie Wolfs and Luka Cruysberghs. Founded around Alex Callier and Raymond Geerts (with early member Frank Duchêne), the band is known for cinematic arrangements and hits such as 2Wicky and Mad About You.

The name changed from Hoover to Hooverphonic to avoid legal issues. 2Wicky featured on the soundtrack of Bernardo Bertolucci’s Stealing Beauty (1996). The Magnificent Tree (2000) yielded the hit Mad About You. Hooverphonic Presents Jackie Cane (2002) is a concept album. Sit Down and Listen to Hooverphonic documents a 2003 Belgian theater tour. The President of the LSD Golf Club (2007) was released via PIAS. The Night Before (2010) introduced Noémie Wolfs.

Six reviews trace Hooverphonic’s path from trip hop foundations to lush orchestral pop and back to electronic roots. Highlights include the theater-hush live set, the concept grandeur of Jackie Cane, and the sleek polish of The Night Before. Vocal spotlights recur—Liesje Sadonius, Geike Arnaert, and Noémie Wolfs—alongside key tracks like 2Wicky and Mad About You.
