Counting Kyuss and the Afghan Whigs among my absolute favorite bands, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see a concert by a group featuring John Garcia (former vocalist of Kyuss) and where the rhythms are set by Steve Earle (drummer of the Afghan W.). If it weren't for these two, the Knaack would have probably been half-empty last night, as no one really knows Hermano yet. But wherever there's an old associate of Kyuss, you can always be sure to encounter many nostalgia-seekers in search of the most desolate Stonerrock, especially in Germany. And I don't think anyone was disappointed last night: 11 solid heavy rock songs, 5-6 of which were extremely exciting and immediately impactful on the audience, as if they were produced directly from the burning deserts of Arizona, fast and psychedelic, packed with energetic distortions and accompanied by the great voice of a slightly out-of-shape J. Garcia (even his "rock" ages), all within the usual and much-celebrated family atmosphere of the Knaack in Berlin. In short, it was well worth it, 12 € well spent and a thrilling encore in a jubilant hall: apologizing for the fact that Hermano's musical repertoire had already been exhausted, Garcia & Co. unleash the explosive and delirious Green Machine from the album "Blues For The Red Sun" by Kyuss (check out the samples!) and I can swear I saw everyone, even those who seconds before were comfortably sitting at the bar counter and tables, rush towards the stage to sing, scream, mosh, push, sweat ... For me, Green Machine realized a small dream; I left the hall struggling to hold back tears, on one hand from joy for the Kyuss song played, but on the other from the pain as Kyuss are no more. djd
