Heinrich Schütz

Cantiones Sacrae 1625 (Currende feat. conductor: Erik van Nevel) riteofspring

I have discovered a great figure in choral music, whom I read is considered a worthy precursor to the great Bach and a true German national glory.

The boldness and depth of Schütz’s scores stand out clearly against the dramatic stasis of Lasso.

Explore Heinrich Schütz’s Cantiones Sacrae 1625 and experience a cornerstone of early Baroque choral music.

Heinrich Schütz

Heinrich Schütz (1585–1672) was a German Baroque composer and kapellmeister in Dresden, widely regarded as the most important German composer before J. S. Bach. A pupil of Giovanni Gabrieli in Venice, he shaped German sacred music with expressive text-setting, rich counterpoint, and stylistic bridges to Italian practice.
