What a beautiful voice Hanne, what a sweet, enchanting, and celestial little voice Hanne has. What a nightingale's throat Hanne has, with vocal cords made to vibrate in a magical and elegant way.
A Billie Holiday of our times, suspended between Emiliana Torrini and the more intimate and introspective Bjork. “Little Things” is the debut album by Hanne Hukkelberg, a young Norwegian singer-songwriter, thirteen seemingly, I emphasize seemingly, easy and light tracks that span between jazz, electronic, pop, and even blues, but Hanne's voice makes them special and unique.
In her first recording adventure, she is also assisted by some members of her compatriots Jaga Jazzist and the musical structure is clearly influenced by this: electro-jazz atmospheres and at times post-rock emphasize the singing potential of Hukkelberg. A myriad of sounds and glitches skillfully and sensitively integrated, creating intimately fairytale-like atmospheres as in the case of “Searching”, “Little Words” and the poignant “Words & a Piece of Paper”. There are also exquisitely acoustic moments like “Do Not As I Do”, but also tunes that seem to belong to other times like the cabaret-like, “Displaced” or vaguely Transalpine like “Boble”, with an accordion reminiscent of “Amélie's memory”.
In short, truly a great debut album, well played, well sung and leaving great hopes for the future… and if it's true that a good day is seen from the morning, it will surely be a good day.
It literally enchanted me from the first listen, something that no longer happens so often.
"Boble"... creates a not bad atmosphere that carries you away.
This album is so beautiful that it’s deadly.
I can no longer find my direction and even when the album ends, I am lost.
