What happens when two members of Giant Squid and the guitarist from a crossover/thrash group (Walken) decide to join forces? PURE BUKKAKE.

And with this more than slightly obscene preamble, I introduce to you the review of All We Destroy by Grayceon, an incredible trio formed in 2005 by two members of Giant Squid (cellist/singer Jackie Perez Gratz and drummer Zack Farwell) and one from Walken (guitarist Max Doyle). The album in question, released in 2011 and adorned with a beautiful cover that almost looks like a tattoo, is probably one of their most peculiar and twisted albums. It features 6 songs (including a 17-minute suite) where they blend a mix of different genres all together, from prog rock, folk, post-metal, and light touches of doom and metalcore (if anyone links metalcore with "sissy choruses" and Bullet, I swear I’ll plant a shovel in their face). Each track consistently surprises us with the immense imagination and creativity with which it is crafted, and I won't spoil too much, you need to listen to understand! The technical side of the album is phenomenal, with Farwell’s surgical and pinpoint-accurate drumming that flawlessly captures any tempo change and ranges from the slowest to the fastest speeds (and there are some blast beats too, but used sporadically and smartly), Doyle who with his guitar alternates ethereal and almost psychedelic arpeggios, acoustic inserts and interludes that always make an appearance in all the songs, and heavy, violent riffs, and lastly, Jackie Perez who hypnotizes us with her beloved cello and her seductive clean voice, but is always ready to switch it up with terrifying outbursts where she releases an acidic and cruel scream... oh... and did I mention that in this trio THERE'S NO BASS? Exactly! Grayceon never uses bass in their albums, but they don't let us miss it at all, thanks to their immense mastery of their instruments. This album is a damn must-have, and if you're tired of the usual prog metal (COUGHDREAMCOUGHTHEATERCOUGHGHGHASG) and you're looking for something new, this is the perfect album!
