The Profile

Grayceon are an American progressive/post‑metal trio formed in 2005 in San Francisco by cellist/vocalist Jackie Perez Gratz, guitarist Max Doyle, and drummer Zack Farwell. Known for electric cello and no bass, they fuse prog, post‑metal and doom across releases like Grayceon, This Grand Show and All We Destroy.

Formed in 2005 by Jackie Perez Gratz (cello, vocals), Max Doyle (guitar) and Zack Farwell (drums); members hail from Giant Squid and Walken, and Gratz has worked with Neurosis and Today Is The Day. Debut album Grayceon arrived two years after formation with four ~10‑minute tracks. All We Destroy (2011) features six songs including a 17‑minute suite. The band does not use bass on their albums.

Two DeBaser reviews praise Grayceon’s cello-driven, bass-free progressive/post-metal. The self-titled debut leans on long, melancholic pieces led by electric cello. All We Destroy (2011) blends prog rock, folk, post‑metal and touches of doom/metalcore, including a 17‑minute suite. Performances highlight precise drumming, dynamic guitars, and Jackie Perez Gratz’s versatile vocals.
