What an amazing life the barbarians must have had! A great sense of freedom permeated their entire being.
They didn’t have to risk their lives in factories, nor suffer mobbing in the office or degrade themselves by warming the school bench; stress and Monday mornings were things known only to those decadent jerks, the Romans.
They didn’t have to go crazy with notaries, tax collectors, intermediaries, speculators, and traffic wardens who condition and inhibit every possible human initiative!
They had METAL that simplified and paved the way to progress, which combined with a good dose of biceps became, when necessary, a passport, credit card, property deed, and cheese slicer. A method that may seem slightly unruly but magically eliminated bureaucracy and queues at the counters.
Well, today METAL is the last bastion of that primordial freedom now submerged by the civilization of preppiness and metaphorically brings those original values back in music.
Metal is still able to proudly display the power of the shockwave of a vandal assault, the vitality of hyperactive Huns, the brutal movements of the lanky Burgundians, the dental neglect of the Tartars, and the long, smooth Viking-style hair which so often makes Mediterranean metallers despair when they find their hair curly like Angelo Branduardi.
In music, it happens that guitars become battle axes, drum skins those flayed from enemies, and the GROWL the symbol of the most intimate freedom of expression, that is, the free burp.
Liberty or death say the Grave Digger, praising the same freedom of their semi-nomadic fathers. The Teutonic band of high metallic lineage active since 1984, that is, in full middle age, adopting a pure Heavy style and with the inclination to churn out concept albums.
This latest work of theirs from 2007 is centered, of course, on freedom. Freedom as one of the inalienable rights of man, treated in 10 tracks that musically testify to just as many circumstances in which man has sought and obtained it, even at the cost of his own life.
I highlight the initial and dramatic "Liberty Or Death", in which the Gravediggers immediately lay their cards on the table showing their immense melodic and technical class, the anthem to Avis "Ocean of blood", followed by the cry of pain from the league for oppressed populations "Highland Tears".
"Silent Revolution" is nothing but the desire to free ourselves from those buzzing pests, the mobile phones, while "Shadowland" longs for a land free from all those kitschy UV lamps and tans, which are causing the disappearance of the white race. Finally, I highlight "Massada" as the last stronghold against the overwhelming power of the usual, and always them, jerks.
Metal brothers, let us free ourselves from all the preppy conformisms. Let us continue to pass on the teachings of our ancestors. Be proud of your sweaty armpits! Be proudly boorish and dignifiedly filthy, be essentially FREE!
Remember that it is easier for a dragon to go through the eye of a needle than for a spotless white undergarment to enter the gates of Valhalla.
STAY FETID BUT ALSO STAYPOWER!
