The Profile

Gorefest are a Dutch death metal band from the Zeeland region, known for heavyweight riffs, cavernous vocals by Jan-Chris de Koeijer, and the precision drumming of Ed Warby. After early ’90s breakthroughs on Nuclear Blast, they flirted with death ’n’ roll before returning to old-school ferocity with La Muerte (2005) and Rise to Ruin (2007).

Formed in the Netherlands in 1989; classic-era lineup included Jan-Chris de Koeijer (vocals/bass), Ed Warby (drums), Frank Harthoorn and Boudewijn Bonebakker (guitars). Released False (1992) and Erase (1994) on Nuclear Blast; disbanded in 1998, reunited in 2004, and disbanded again in 2009 after releasing La Muerte (2005) and Rise to Ruin (2007).

Four reviews chart Gorefest’s path from early-’90s Dutch death metal to a heavier, old-school resurgence. False (1992) sharpens their sound with Colin Richardson’s production. La Muerte (2005) marks a gritty comeback on Nuclear Blast. Rise to Ruin (2007) doubles down with ferocity, clear growls, and Ed Warby’s powerhouse drumming. Overall verdict: consistently strong, headbang-ready records.
