Girlpool have truly become a band: a power trio, to be precise. This has allowed them to unleash all the untapped potential of their previous works: if in the past, without a drummer and with the simple but honorable intent of creating minimal gems, like a Velvet Underground without Warhol, they hadn't been able to cover a wide spectrum of genres and sounds, in this Powerplant we can finally hear their true soul.

Like new Breeders trying to navigate the murky world of the web, Girlpool are fully aware of what needs to be accomplished; I will tirelessly advocate for these lo-fi American bands to be called WIKI-LOFI.

digression: for me, WIKI-LOFI is represented by those groups that are primarily lo-fi/alt-rock and do not want to give a precise and constructed soul to their works (Alex G, teen suicide, partly Car Seat Headrest, Porches, and Elvis Depressedly who have managed to make themselves unique), but they weave through various subgenres from the '90s from grunge to folk, country to noise. Alex G and teen suicide even ventured into industrial, rnb, and IDM while maintaining a personal touch, recognizable yet still contemporary.

In conclusion, the album flows like oil: dream-gaze, post-punk, jangle pop, noise pop.
