Giorgio Peggiani – Against the Strain of Modern Music (Maxy Sound)

It is a passionate and captivating journey that Giorgio Peggiani offers us with his new album. He himself, in the liner notes, lets us understand how this journey, always with his harmonica by his side, has brought him here with pride (and you can feel it), sincerity (and you can feel it), and passion (and you can feel this too). Despite 6 out of 11 tracks being “covers”, Peggiani, with the aforementioned qualities on his side, manages to make them his own, turning a “deja vu” garment into a new piece, ready for modern use, precisely against the strain of modern music. And even this word “against”, this taking a stand somehow, somewhere, makes us like him even more. Thus, a classic by Modugno like “Nel blu dipinto di blu” becomes something “other.” And the same can be said of a classic Chicago Blues piece, in the name of Muddy Waters, like “Back At The Chicken Shack.” When he then offers us his songs, Peggiani demonstrates how deeply blues and soul have permeated him in an indelible way. Listen to the beautiful and deadly Feel A Stroke, with its cheeky groove, to appreciate this artist.
