After releasing three singles over the span of two years, the talented German singer-songwriter Konstantin Gropper arrives, thanks to the release via City Slang, in the early moments of the emerging 2008 with the true debut work of his Euro-transnational [Berlin/London/Dublin, the music-geographic axis on which the septet develops] as an admirable ensemble.
The total fourteen tracks represented here skillfully and with measured savoir-faire balance between a substantial, never cloying indie-pop, perfectly interpreted by the young and somber Constantine, characterized by (sometimes) melancholic tones and on the other hand a veiled folk-indie-rock attitude substantially devoid of inappropriate roughness in this context.
Among the moments that most contributed to my personal perceptive satisfaction, I would include the truly splendid and Mariachi-Calexicana ""You/Aurora/You/Seaside"", with its grandiose, epic-desert brass inserts, the very delicate acoustic-intimate ""We Are Safe Inside While They Burn Down Our House"" or the imposing electric crescendo unraveled in ""I sold my hands for food so please feed me"" [magnificent title, if I may].
In essence, the authentic and driving strength of the work lies both in the appreciably diversified creative vein [the effective electro appearances on ""born slippy nuxx"", the honky-tonk bar tones in ""Your Endless Dream"", the broadly sweeping pop emanated by ""Witches! Witches! Rest Now In The Fire"] overall noticeable as well as in the contextual high quality-structural level of the musical fractions staged in it: definitely a pleasant listen.
