Gato Barbieri

The Third World Purple_Haze

Gato’s sax roars and writhes, no longer following chords or scales: it travels precariously on the thin line that divides the avant-garde experiences of free jazz with the Coltranesque influence.

This is a record that makes no concessions, a difficult album, but incredibly intense.

Listen to Gato Barbieri's The Third World and experience a powerful jazz journey infused with global rhythms and raw emotion.

You and The Third World

Gato Barbieri

Leandro “Gato” Barbieri (1932–2016) was an Argentine tenor saxophonist whose volcanic tone fused free jazz urgency with the melodies and rhythms of Latin America. Rising in the 1960s and flourishing through the 1970s, he recorded influential albums for Flying Dutchman and Impulse! and composed the score for Last Tango in Paris.
