In '72, the debut filled with rock anthems, the following year another handful of singles, including the incredible "I'm The Leader Of The Gang (I Am)", crowned Gary Glitter as king of the Stardom planet. In 1974, his second work, "Touch Me", a reaffirmation, was released. We are indeed facing the second episode of a "compilation-disco", of singles, covers, and fillers. The first ones maintain the high standards, especially with the excellent "Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah!)", with that dead school choir chanting lifelessly "Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah"... More or less the same ingredients for "Hello, Hello I'm Back Again" with similarly scattered choral greetings. Pure glam stands out in "Hold On To What You Got", while in "Hard On Me" and "Sidewalk Sinner" there's a bit of indulgence in the desire for (rhythm and) blues.

On the covers front, there's an intelligent, sweetened version of "Money Honey", complete with fake applause at the beginning of the track. Then, an excessive dose of ballads, too much on the compositional standards of the 1950s and 1960s American music; "Lonely Boy", then, seems like "These Arms Of Mine" just released from Otis Redding's voice. Tracks, in short, predictable from the first to the last note, as well as the many traditional rock n' roll episodes like "I.O.U." and "Happy Birthday".

No way around it: the best album of Gary Glitter was made for him by the record companies, with the compilation of hits. And these not only gave Glitter the joy of an entirely beautiful album, but they also obviously fattened the wallet of this dissolute character, imprisoned on charges of having had sexual relations in Vietnam with dozens of minors and even infants... To return to the music, some of his collections, as we were saying, intelligently extract tracks from a specific period, a five-year span, or even two years, succeeding in the aim to provide a credible work from a so-called "documentary" and historical point of view (an icon of the seventies in his period of greatest splendor, which is the seventies), but also, if not especially, thanks to arrangements "close" between track and track, something artistically compact and credible. And of value. When you pass by the record shop, take note: the guy calls himself Gary Glitter, and for him, a good collection is enough.

Tracklist Lyrics and Videos

01   Do You Wanna Touch Me (03:22)

We've been here too long tryin' to get along
Pretending that you're oh so shy
I'm a natural man doin' all I can
My temp'rature is runnin' high
Friday night no one in sight and we got so much to share
Talkin's fine if you got the time, I ain't got the time to spare

Do you wanna touch? - Yeah! Do you wanna touch? - Yeah!
Do you wanna touch me there? Yeah!
Do you wanna touch? - Yeah! Do you wanna touch? - Yeah!
Do you wanna touch me there? Where? There! Yeah! Oh!

Yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Mymymymymy!
Yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

Ev'ry growin' boy needs a little joy, all you do is sit an' stare
Beggin' on my knees, baby won't you please
Run your fingers thru' my hair
My my my whisky & Dry, don't it make you feel so fine?
Right or wrong, don't it turn you on
Can't you see we're wastin' time?

Do you wanna touch? - Yeah! Do you wanna touch? - Yeah!
Do you wanna touch me there? Yeah!
Do you wanna touch? - Yeah! Do you wanna touch? - Yeah!
Do you wanna touch me there? Where? There! Yeah! Oh!

Yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! There there there there
Yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Ow
Yeah! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! ....
Every growing boy needs a little joy -
Beggin' on my knees, baby if you please -
Every growing boy needs a little toy -
I'm a natural man doin' all I can -
Every Friday night I got to get it right -
I'm waiting so long oh - ....
