This phrase alone could define these musical works: "Class is not H₂O!”

Sometimes, I imagine how thrilling it would have been, a musical encounter between musicians, even if they were far apart in terms of musical experiences and life. Just to play together with the passion for music, for a brief but intense period of time.

A "hypothetical musical meeting” in another dimension. So distant, yet so close...

Two memorable albums, also for audio quality, predominantly instrumental, by undisputed virtuosos of the guitar, who would scarcely need stellar introductions. Given my almost inexhaustible passion for the six strings, I will briefly profile. It is hard to pinpoint the most emotionally remarkable tracks, as almost all of them are, as well as to identify any dips in tone or uncertainties.

Gambale developed the album on Fusion sounds, but also with brief excursions into other genres such as New Age in the delightful and irresistible "Cruising Altitude” featuring a Sitar Guitar. The overall result is compact and uniform, primarily built on intricate guitar webs, always marked by a bright and balanced feeling, supported by refined technique. Shining examples are "The Final Frontier” and "The Great Explorers”. The passionate acoustic guitar and piano duet in "Dawn over the nullarbor”.

More varied, and at times cheeky in musical styles, is Gatton's work. The tracks range from Blues to Rockabilly, from Jazz to Rock & Roll, but not only that.

Danny also gives other musicians the chance to stand out, particularly saxophonist and keyboardist Holloman and the singers. His dazzling flair can be heard in an unparalleled version of "Harlem Nocturne”, and in the turbulent chase with the Hammond B-3 in "So Good”. There are also relaxing and subtle passages like "Tragedy” and "Sky King”.

As always or almost, a mention of the booklets is deserved, both more than "quite acceptable", containing various notes and photos of the musicians. The list of guitars and amplifiers used by Gatton is not to be missed, including an Original 1953 Fender Telecaster.

What are you waiting for? Listen actively, and then, eventually, express your opinion!

Ps: “It is true that class is not H₂O, unless it is D₂O!”
