That the term nu metal has been increasingly misused since the release of Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory" should be clear to everyone. Now their pretentious hip hop side (which makes us puzzle the most over this nu metal nonsense), after "Meteora" and a string of dreadful fillers, comes out with a side project.
Even the name Fort Minor is for the microcephalic. "The Rising Tied", like any work signed by Mike Shinoda, is produced and curated with pomposity bordering on the ridiculous. The tracks are fake alternative stuff, with little personality, and with which Shinoda fails to evolve musically.
"Where'd You Go" seems to copy both Eminem's "Stan" and the Linkin Park-esque "My December", "Remember The Name" is a bit mediocre, and the themes of "Kenji" do not fully convince (if Shinoda is almost 30 years old, is his father 70-80?). However, the humorous "Petrified" and "Believe Me" are acceptable, as is the quasi rap metal of "Red To Black" (which recalls a bit of "Papercut" and a bit of "Sour" by Limp Bizkit) and the presence on the album of slightly more credible and seasoned rappers.
