FOLKSTONE - Ossidiana
(Folkstone Records / Universal Music)
From the union between rock and folk music (but not only) comes Ossidiana, the new album by Folkstone.
An album meticulously studied, from the lyrics to the arrangements.
An album that celebrates change.
The title indeed refers to the name of a volcanic glass that transforms in its life cycle and changes structure, just like this new album in which the Folkstone have embraced changes and the desire to experiment with new forms of music and words.
Through the thirteen tracks that compose it, one can find themselves catapulted into charged and intense atmospheres, or conversely, more melancholic and introspective, where the folk lines dominate each piece.
The album opens the dances with Pelle nera e rum (the first single extracted), a track that immediately presents us with change, a piece halfway between country and an energetic blues, not exactly the classic style of the Folkstone.
Scintilla already brings us back to more familiar territories, among imposing hard rock guitars and a chorus that begs to be sung from beneath the stage.
Continuing with Anna, the first acoustic piece of the album and the first track where the voices of Roby and Lore intertwine, followed by Psicopatia, of pure hard rock matrix, aimed at criticizing today's human condition.
Asia represents a true hymn of love directed to the east, experimental and luminous, while Scacco al re is a folk-metal ride with epic yet harmonious tones, thanks also to the presence of a harp that gently detaches, for a moment, from the created atmosphere.
Mare dentro is a melancholic ballad contrasting with E vado via, decidedly aggressive.
Istantanea is an emotional song about time with evocative rhythms, Supernova is the most experimental track of the album, rich in sounds, at times almost psychedelic, while Dritto al petto is an aggressive country piece where Roby is the protagonist.
Sabbia nera leads us toward the final beats with a last burst of direct and biting hard rock and finally Ossidiana closes the work in grand style, in a melancholic and epic way at the same time, perhaps the most evocative and touching song of the album.
